Hazard Assessment and Control is a four hour course that is beneficial to employees at all organizational levels, as it aides in the reduction of workplace injuries and incidents. Protection of the employee and the client is of the utmost importance. In order to be controlled, workplace hazards that can affect people, equipment, and the environment first must be identified and understood. Knowledge of the hazards is the first step in the development of the health and safety management system in any workplace. A hazard assessment must focus on all parts of business operations, including health and safety, environment, quality and production. This training focuses on the identification, classification, and prioritization of the risks associated with hazards to people, property and the environment.
• create an inventory of the tasks performed by each occupation in the workplace
• be familiar with key terminology pertaining to the Hazard Assessment
• identify the hazards related to each job/task/process
• assess and prioritize the risks associated with each task and hazard
• demonstrate the ability to perform, and differentiate between, formal and specific hazard / risk assessments, inspections and task observations
• describe the different methods of hazard / risk control
• define rules, procedures, practices and codes of practice
• describe the hazard / risk control process
• describe the types of inspections
• describe how to conduct inspections and record observations
• identify methods used to encourage hazard reporting
• be able to recognize control mechanisms in your work area.
• be able to recommend control measures that need to be put into place in order to reduce or eliminate risk in your area
• identify an order of accountability for ensuring the implementation or recommended controls within your work area
• have completed a Hazard Assessment
